Lecture 8: Rise of the New Religion

The term “new religions” designates religious organizations that have come into being outside the framework of the established Shinto, Buddhist, or Christian bodies and maintain an independent existence. Nichiren is regarded as the founder of a unique stream of modern Japan new religions like Reiyūkai, Risshō Kōsei Kai, and Sōka Gakkai which are based on the influence of the Nichiren school.
