The Meiji Era, is a period in Japanese history covering the regency of Emperor Meiji, from 1868-1912. After a seclusion policy leading to over two-hundred years of a certain closure Japan developed with the Meiji-Restoration from a backward feudal state to a modern imperial World Power. Buddhist beliefs and philosophies which have taken places in Japan since the Meiji-Restoration have affected the very essence of Japanese Buddhist ways of thinking today. |
