Based on Gombrich's point of view, what is the dating of Buddha? in the relating paragraph I saw the prof. only mentioned in unit 2 " the Buddha's death as between 422 and 399 BCE with a greater likelihood for a date in the middle of this range"?

I am very interested in Richard Gombrich's Argument by his calculation of the year from Upali to Tissa for Vinaya ordainment. However, may be something error in typing in page 4, the 2nd line from the bottom up?

It should be 58 AB not 52 AB, Sonaka(aged forty) ordains Siggava (probably aged twenty). Because 17=40-23 " the difference in aged of Sonaka for two period " plus 41 would be 58.

Dear Nguyen, you are brilliant. I could not meet Prof. Somaratane to ask him to check the original note. However, it seems your calculation is right.

Previously I answered a few questions relating to same topic here;

However, new research at Lumbhuni is showing something fascinating about the Buddha's date somewhat similar to Mahavamsa's record.
